The answer to the question, “Can you get stronger and fit after 50?” is an absolute, “Yes, yes, yes. Yes, you can,” One of the Guides in my Facebook group is “Age is Just a Number,” and if you’ve been around for me a little while you know I have a big interest in that. We have chronological age, how long you’ve been alive, and biological age, how old your body is, which you can do something about. I want to highlight a couple of those from that Guide.

Iris Davis is a 79 year old bodybuilder, and she’s been lifting most of her life. She understands it’s never too late, she trains men and women, and competes. She has trained women in their 70s and within two years (building muscle is an investment, it’s not going to happen overnight. Within six to eight weeks you’ll start to notice changes in your body. To get the full effect it’s going take a little bit more time.), they’re bulked up, beautiful, fit and toned. And they’re doing things that she’s doing.

Dr. Josefina Monasterio is 76 years old, never touched a wait until she was 59. She’s healthier now and better than when she was in her 20s. At the time of writing this, she’s getting ready for another competition this year.

Nora Langdon didn’t start lifting in her 60s. She realized she was definitely overweight and needed to make some changes. At a birthday party for her she met her trainer and she got into powerlifting. At 78 she is a professional powerlifter, and she is lifting weights I’m not able to. She is setting records and still going strong.

Losing touch with ourselves can have a ripple effect on every aspect of our lives. Without being grounded in our core values and beliefs, our decision-making process may be hindered, resulting in a life that may not be fulfilling or satisfying.

Mary Duffy didn’t take the gym seriously until she was 59. After her mother passed away, she gained a lot of weight, and realized she needed to make a change. She started lifting weights and got into powerlifting. At 73 she is still at it and her lifts seem to be getting better.
